"Flooding in the Mall" 1934
A dapper young chap - identity unknown - crosses a flooded stretch of the Mall with considerable panache, courtesy of two folding chairs. The Mall, possibly the grandest street in London, was created out of St. James's park in 1660 as a pitch for the croquet-like game of paille-maille, and lined by two avenues of trees in the French fashion. Nearby Pall Mall was used for the same purpose, hence its name.
